    Começou a sua vida profissional em 1841 na Superintendência do Comércio Britânico em Macau e em 1842 foi transferido com seu irmão Leonardo para Hong Kong. Iniciou, então, uma brilhante carreira ao service da administração inglesa e em 1877 foí nomeado secretário particular do Governador Sir John Pope Henessey.
    Quando morreu era Chief Clerck do Secretariado Colonial e Clerck of Councils do Governo de Hong Kong.

    He began his professional life in 1841 in the Superintendency of British Trade in Macau and in 1842 was transferred with his brother Leonardo to Hong Kong. He then began a brilliant career in the service of the British administration in 1877 and was appointed (Private Secretary of Governor Sir John Pope Henessey.
    When he died he was Chief Clerck (sic) of the Colonial Secretariat and Clerck of Councils of the Government of Hong Kong.5
