- Nationality*: Spaniard.
- Occupation*:
He was a merchant and owner of the brigantine Bilbaino which traded between Manila and China and which in 1839, when waiting to enter the port of Macau when the opium war was erupting, was attacked and burned by Chinese boats because the British, with whom the conflict had broken out, had taken advantage of the presence of the brigantine at the harbour entrance to refuel.
His name appears on the official report dated 13 May 1837, in which the Provisional Government of the States of India, sent to the Senate four certificates which stated that Vicente Francisco Baptista, João de Deus de Castro and D. Gabriel Yruretagoyema, residents in Macau, owed the Royal Treasury 5801 xerafins*, four tangas**, 40.5 réis*** and 1031 patacas and 77 cents, by tithes to the Chancery and costs that were imposed at different times by the former Court of Appeal, determining that the Senate could charge that amount and remit it to the Treasury of the States of India.
* A silver coin current in Portuguese India before the 19th century and worth 300 to 360 réis.
** Equal in value to the Indian anna and worth about 4 réis in 1871
*** The real (plural réis) was a coin used in Portugal. In 1854 1000 réis = 1.626 grams of fine gold.1
