Fernandes, que publicou durante anos o Boletim Oficial de Macau. Já depois da sua morte, esta tipografia obteve os seguintes prémios pela excelência dos seus trabalhos: Menção Honorosa da Exposição Universal de Paris de 1900, Medalha de Ouro na Exposição Industrial de Macau de 1926 e Diploma de Honra na Exposição Colonial Internacional de Paris de 1931. / He sought and gained for some years monopoly of the game of fan-tan and of the opium trade. He founded the commercial printing firm Tipografia Mercantil N.T. Fernandes. This was the only Portuguese establishment that submitted and gained approval for its works of graphic arts in the International Specimen Exchange of the USA in 1887. Then after his death this printing press won the following prizes for the excellence of its works: Honorary Mention in the Universal Exposition in Paris of 1900, Gold Medal in the Industrial Exposition of Macau of 1926 and Diploma of Honour in the International Colonial Exposition in Paris in 1931.4
