- Occupation*:
He founded in 1854 a ship-owning partnership with Frederick John Angier, under the firm Angier & Allanson, which was based in Macau and had branches in Canton and Shanghai. He also owned the ship he commanded, with which he traded in tea, silk and Chinese porcelain between Canton, Macau and England. He was Protestant, and married with the condition that his wife educated all their children in the Catholic faith. There is a family tradition that he had promised her daughter Mariquinhas to convert to Catholicism when he returned from his next voyage which never occurred because he died in shipwreck.
- Marriage*: Antónia da Esperança Barreto, daughter of Bartolomeu Barreto and Antónia Rita da Cruz, at S. Lourenço, Macau.4
