In the 17th Century, Macau was a rich and valuable Portuguese trading post. In late June 1622 a large Dutch force attacked Macau. A small group of defenders, augmented by volunteers, fought bravely and defeated the invaders on the 24th June, the feast of the birth of St John the Baptist. Ever since then, Macau has celebrated that great victory as the Dia de São João. In 2022, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of this victory, Mr Victor Marreiros produced this plaque.
